Dukkah
Dukkah is an Egyptian spice blend that traditionally includes nuts, seeds and spices like cumin and coriander. It’s often used as a dip or sprinkled on bread, salad or vegetables.
Hemp seed dukkah is delicious and healthy. It is the perfect blend to have on hand to add flavour and texture to any meal or side dish.
This recipe is easy to make at home with just a few simple ingredients. Making a basic dukkah will allow you to add other spices to suit the dish you are preparing.
Basic Dukkah Recipe
- ½ cup walnuts
- ⅓ cup almonds or hazelnuts
- ¼ cup hemp seeds
STEP 1: Toast the nuts and hemp seeds in a dry skillet until golden brown.
STEP 2: Add nuts and hemp seeds to a blender and pulse until they are finely ground, but still have texture.
Now you have the basic dukkah recipe, you can add different spices to it, depending on what you are cooking.
For a more savoury dish like roast vegetables or salad. We like to use cumin, coriander, allspice, salt and pepper. Just add the following to your basic dukkah recipe to create the perfect savoury sprinkle.
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ⅛ teaspoon ground allspice
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon of pepper
For a dukkah that is more suited to sweeter style dishes such as yoghurt, ice cream and smoothie bowls, we like to use cinnamon or nutmeg. This adds some warmth and a sense of sweetness to it. Just add the following to your basic dukkah recipe and sprinkle on your favourite sweet dishes or your morning oatmeal.
- 3 teaspoons of cinnamon or nutmeg
Store the dukkah in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Sprinkle it on anything and everything!
Hemp Milk
Hemp seed milk is non-dairy milk made from hemp seeds. The milk is high in protein and essential fatty acids. It is also a good source of calcium, magnesium and potassium.
The great thing about hemp seed milk is that it does not contain lactose or casein. This makes it a good choice for those who are lactose-intolerant or vegan. It is easy to make and can be stored for up to 7 days in the fridge.
