What is an acai bowl?
Acai bowls are big smoothie bowl that has been topped with various fruits, nuts, seeds, spreads and more. Made from pulped frozen acai berries, the pureed base is a smoothie.
Originating from Brazil, acai berries are native to the origin country, growing on palm trees in the rainforests. Acai berries are considered a superfood as they are full of antioxidants, fibre content and other nutrients.
Acai bowls are a popular Brazilian dish and have since become a global success. It is served worldwide as a dessert and snack or healthy breakfast. While cafes may charge a hefty price to enjoy this dish, it can be easily created at home.
The main ingredient you need is the acai. In Australia, this is available in powder or frozen form. This can usually be found in your supermarkets.
Ingredients
- 1 pack of frozen acai puree mixed
- 1/2 cup of frozen berries
- dash of milk (or water as an alternative)
- 1 handful of dry coconut flakes
- 2 tablespoons of organic peanut butter
- 2 chopped-up bananas
- 3 strawberries sliced
- 1/4 cup of fresh blueberries
- ¼ cup of raspberries
- ½ of kiwi fruit
- Honey
- 2 teaspoons of poppy seed + hemp seed mixed
- 1 teaspoon of cacao nibs
Steps:
STEP 1: Blend the chopped bananas, frozen acai puree and frozen berries until well combined.
STEP 2: Pour the puree base into a bowl and top with blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, kiwi fruit and peanut butter.
STEP 3: Drizzle honey over the bowl and sprinkle your poppy seed and hemp seed mixture. Finish with cacao nibs and coconut flakes.
STEP 4: Serve and enjoy!
